Meaning
I feel so lucky to have artists as friends — people who know me and sometimes understand what I’m trying to say before I fully understand it myself.
Yesterday, this painting had a face. But when I finished it, something felt wrong. I didn’t resonate with it at all, so I painted over it.
For a moment I loved it that way, but then I started thinking that maybe no one would understand it. I was already planning what else I could add when my friend called me and said: don’t touch it anymore. You don’t always have to show everything you want to say.
And suddenly it made sense.
Maybe the absence of a face says more than the face ever could.
We move through life wearing different faces, identities and roles, often confusing them with who we actually are. But underneath all of them, there is still something observing — something that doesn’t need a face, a name or a role to exist.
So I left the space empty.
Not everything needs to be explained. Sometimes what is missing leaves more room for us to recognise something of ourselves.
